Ross Childress - Listen

這不是我第一次表達我對 Collective Soul（聚合靈魂樂團）的喜愛（Collective Soul、Collective Soul - Untitled）。我最愛的還是前 leading guitarist 主奏吉他手 Ross Childress 還在團裡的那個時期。

上面這張圖片雖然是 Collective Soul 的演唱會，但既然右下方的「Additional Information」區塊顯示「taken on February 2, 2008」（喔耶是在我的生日辦的演唱會，【小掰同學誕辰紀念日慶生演唱會】卻沒有邀請壽星到場也真是太殘念了啊笨蛋自嗨個什麼勁），那就顯然不會有 Ross Childress 參與其中彈奏吉他了。

在 2001 年 Ross Childress 離開 Collective Soul 之後，Collective Soul 也正面臨著合約到期轉換唱片公司的過渡期。Ross Childress 在 2004 年起和加拿大歌手 Trevor Hurst 一起組團並擔任 Hurst 樂團 EP 製作人包辦編曲錄音製作所有工作，還擔任另一個樂團「The Hot Rod」的專輯所有幕後工作，2006 年起再以 Ross Childress Experience 名義展開單飛計畫，2007 年改名為 Starfish and Coffee，進入到下一個階段。我在 Starfish and Coffee 的 MySpace 空間中聽到新歌試聽，有一種熟悉的感動，這種陽光明媚的吉他搖滾，正是當初我之所以對九零年代的 Collective Soul 如此傾心的主要原因啊。在 Childress 離團後，我也不是如此絕情便放棄 Collective Soul，雖然轉換新廠牌後在台灣沒有唱片公司願意代理新專輯，透過網路我也還是努力去找來聽過了，接替 Childress 位置的新任主奏吉他手 Joel Kosche 其實本來是自 1996 年以來 Childress 的專任吉他技師，雖然也同時還是個 solo artist 發表過個人專輯，但我必須說少了 Childress 之後的 Collective Soul 還是少掉了一大塊什麼。Ross 的地位不是那麼容易被取代的。

其實我真的對 Collective Soul 在台灣的知名度、銷售量始終不高感到遺憾和些許不解。明明是那樣悅耳動聽，外表也是又高又帥，絕對具備大紅大紫大賣幾萬張的條件啊！台灣的唱片公司若始終只肯砸錢強打某些其實音樂作得不怎麼樣的芭樂樂團，嗅覺與品味真的應該檢討一下，好聽的隨便發一發，不怎麼樣的卻天花亂墜砸錢狂打，難怪容易賠錢、難怪市場會被作到愈來愈萎縮啊。



雖然要在台灣的一般連鎖唱片行買到 Starfish and Coffee 作品代理盤的可能性恐怕是微乎其微，但我還是會儘可能盡到身為 Ross Childress 忠誠追隨者的本分，一定要在 blog 上再多為這個我所欣賞的吉他手多多美言幾句，大家有機會都要來聽這麼好聽的吉他搖滾，學學怎麼寫出彈出流暢悅耳的旋律來啊。
